About

Hi there!

Welcome to my blog! My name is Sangeeta Pradhan. I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator. I work as the Diabetes Program Coordinator of a large physician practice group in the Metro-West Boston area. I am also a professional speaker with over 20 years of speaking on the (very broad and yes, confusing!!…), topic of nutrition at non -profit and corporate accounts.

I had the distinct honor of being a speaker at the Mass Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ state level annual conference in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, and recently presented a webinar on “Circadian rhythms”  in Januray 2022. I have presented talks on the “Gut microbiome” at Simmon’s college, MA.  “Nutrition and Cognitive function” at Framingham State University. and was interviewed on the “Nutrition experts” podcast in January 2019 on the same subject. In September 2019, I presented a webinar on the impact of nutrition on cognition, for “Today’s Dietitian”, the nation’s premier resource on nutrition for health professionals.

A couple of years ago, I was a guest on the “Spot-On” podcast hosted by Dr. Joan Salge Blake, nutrition professor at Boston University, speaking on Intermittent fasting and circadian rhythms. The links to those episodes may be found here and here

I happen to be a South Asian nutrition expert and work closely with South Asian organization to deliver evidence based nutrition presentations in the community, ranging the gamut from diabetes management the microbiome, and intermittent fasting to nutriton and aging, to name just a few. I have worked as a guest blogger for Food and Nutrition magazine’s Stone Soup Blog, and  I am am currently the President Elect of the Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Knowledge in and of itself is of no value unless shared with others. By sharing my professional knowledge that is based upon scientific evidence and current research with you, the reader, I hope to inspire you to accomplish your health and nutrition related goals.

Having said that, understanding nutrition will only take you so far. At the end of the day, you need to translate these sound nutritional concepts into real foods that you can actually enjoy. To this end, I have created a repertoire of delicious recipes using whole and wholesome ingredients.  I was blessed to be raised in a traditional Indian household in an era when everything was prepared from scratch, (not to mention with a dash of love and a pinch of passion)! By osmosis, I must have imbibed this I suppose, because cooking soon became my passion and an integral part of my life. As an RD, somewhere along the way, I learned to tweak traditional, calorie dense recipes to make them healthier, without sacrificing flavor! ( I also learned to not reveal to my family that it was a “tweaked” recipe)!

For wholesome, delicious recipes, I invite you to check out my recipe index, dig in and enjoy!

As a footnote, I am a firm believer in a “non-diet” approach to health, in honoring hunger, and shifting the focus from the endless, non-productive, morale depleting spiral of “dieting” that some of us are all too familiar with, to the sheer joy of eating. I seek to help my patients and clientele rediscover food, to eat food the way it was meant to be eaten before we got to our diet-obsessed culture, and in so doing , re-establish a healthy relationship with food.

  3. Dear Peggy,
Thank you. The purpose of my blog is to “demystify” the complex and confusing topic of nutrition distilling it down to practical steps for my readers, utilizing current scientific guidelines. The more folks I am able to reach and help, the more meaningful and gratifying my work becomes. Blogs potentially gives one global reach, which is why I started this. I truly appreciate your helping me spread the word.
    Sincerely,
    Sangeeta

  26. I may have been somewhat diabetic for many years. Never really been tracked or diagnosed since last year. I take 500 Metformin twice a day and seems to have everything in balance. My right eye is damaged and am being monitory for diabetic complications that may come in my left eye. Worrisome.

  27. Sorry to hear that. Make sure you get a dilated eye exam as frequently as recommended by your eye doctor, who may want to monitor you more often. In general, lower blood sugars may lower your risk of complications from diabetes. Check with your physician about personalized blood glucose goals for you. All the best:)
